June is Cataract Awareness Month: Protect Your Sight
June marks Cataract Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide. Cataracts affect more than 24 million Americans aged 40 and older, and by age 75, nearly half of all adults have cataracts.
A cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurry vision, faded colors, glare, and difficulty seeing at night. While aging is the most common cause, other factors like diabetes, smoking, prolonged UV exposure, and eye injuries can also increase the risk.
The good news? Cataracts are treatable. Regular eye exams can catch them early, and surgery to replace the cloudy lens with a clear artificial one is safe and highly effective.
This month, take a moment to schedule an eye exam for yourself or encourage a loved one to do the same. Early detection is key to maintaining healthy vision and quality of life.
Your sight matters—protect it. 👁️💙
